Listed below are some of the more recent contributions to the Chatham County Historical Association. We appreciate the support of anyone interested in preserving the history of Chatham County and gratefully accept any item or document that will help others in their research, education, or enjoyment of our county's history. The Chatham County Historical Association is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

  • Charles V. Williams: Five 19th-century documents.
  • Avis Autry: 1933 History of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Pittsboro, by the Rev. Royal Shannonhouse.
  • Carl Bigness: Six issues of Chatham Citizen from 1903.
  • Edgar C. Hall, Jr.: City directory for Siler City, 1962-1963.
  • Reba Gunter Thomas: 28th Annual Report of the North Carolina Department of Labor and Printing, 1914.
  • Richard Webster, Chatham County Sheriff: Bound volumes: Monthly Jail Reports from October 1958 to November 1965, Jail Records from May 1924 to December 1932, Indexed Record of Criminal and Civil Papers, January 1976 to July 1977.
  • Robert D. Emerson: Dancing with Devils.
     
  • Vienna Barger: Two 1960 documents found in former home of Mary Frances Lindley, one a campaign letter from B. Everett Jordan and the other a mimeographed encouragement to farmers to sign up for social security.
  • Harvey Gunter: 1970 snapshots of Manly Law Office interior (for scanning).
  • Lucy Pugh, Treva Kidd, Dorothy Phillips: Historical photographs of Bennett School (for scanning).
  • Elizabeth Dunbar: Framed photographs of John Alexander Pugh (1829-1891) and Mary Lewis Pugh (1834-1912).
  • Ann Nooe C’deBaca: Documents from the estate of Jane Highsmith Nooe, including a list of members of the May’s Chapel Missionary Society from the founding meeting in August 1895, an 1939 telephone bill, tax receipts from the 1920s and 1930s, and a 1939 hunting license.
  • Dr. Noah Wilson: A generous donation to the log houses reconstruction project.
  • Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies: Albert Ray Newsome Award recognizing recent CCHA accomplishments including this web site, publication of our cemetery inventory, and reconstruction work on the Milliken and Marshall log houses.
  • Wren Foundation of Chatham County: Support of ongoing activities.
  • Ruth Dorsett Perry: A set of photographs of people from the Chatham County area that were made cir. 1890's.
  • Richard Ellington, President, D-OGS: 22 photographs identified as "Deep River, North Carolina, 1921." Six photographs depict dam construction, one of which reads "Carbont[on]." The rest are people, unidentified except for one "Sidney Francis Chastain."
  • Craig DeBussey: for two additional log benches fashioned from logs salvaged from the Milliken log cabin on the county fairgrounds, Pittsboro. One, identical to the bench he made for a raffle last spring, is being offered in a silent auction at Edwards Antiques, Pittsboro.
  • Pearson Stewart: It is a collection of newspaper clippings and other materials about Chatham County on various subjects, such as the courthouse, Astoria, Governors Club, Bynum.
  • Pittsboro High School Reunion Committee: gift of a videotape, CD, and directory of PHS graduates containing much information of historical value.
  • 500 people: Thanks to the more than 500 people who supported the log house restoration project with donations for the log bench. The new owner of this piece of history is Cliff Beasley.
  • James N. Colt: Contribution to log house restoration project.
  • Wade H. Hadley Jr. Trust: A very generous donation.
  • Jean Bright: "Autobiography and Selected Works" of George Moses Horton and other items prepared by Mildred Bright Peyton in the 1970s.
  • Chatham County Travel & Tourism: grant to support the initial design and installation of this Web page.
