Downtown Pittsboro Historical Walking Tours 1st Sundays, April, May, June 2026 Two Tours per date Meet at the Historic Chatham Courthouse 9 Hillsboro St. Cost: $5 members, $10 non-members | Step into the past with the Chatham County Historical Association in the Downtown Pittsboro Historical Walking Tour Series launching this April! Each month explores a new theme, bringing the stories of our streets, buildings, and people to life. Walk through history with us and discover how downtown has evolved through the years. COMING UP No July Tour-- We'll resume in August August - Education Join us for a special tour exploring the history of education in Chatham County. Unlike previous downtown walking tours, this program takes place in the comfort of the multipurpose room of George Moses Horton Middle School, where participants will enjoy an engaging virtual tour tracing the development of education throughout the county's past. The program will include a guided walk around the campus, highlighting the rich history and legacy of George Moses Horton School. August 9 CCHA Historical Tour: Education
April- The Arts Discover history of artists, performers, and creative spaces that shaped downtown’s cultural life. From galleries and murals to hidden stories of local talent, this tour celebrates how the arts helped define our community’s spirit. More info and tickets: RESCHEDULED April 11 Downtown Pittsboro Historical Walking Tour: Noon April 11 Downtown Pittsboro Historical Walking Tour: 2PM May- Making a Living Step into the working heart of Pittsboro and discover how generations of residents made a living along the historic streets. This walking tour explores the business heart of downtown, where law offices, mills, general stores, health facilities, and family run shops formed a tightly woven economy. Learn how roads, rails, and other modes of transportation shaped growth, commerce, and daily life and through time, changed how people moved throughout the community.
